Information for Authors
e-learning and education (eleed)
"e-learning and education" is an archival, peer-reviewed technical journal that will appear every three months and publishes the following types of contributions:
- Research papers
- Reports on case studies
- Survey articles
- e-Learning standards and proposals
- Reports on major e-Learning projects
- Book and product presentations or discussions.
- Dissertations
It covers all aspects of e-learning including:
- Best practice reports addressing all kinds of educational and vocational settings.
- Innovative didactic and pedagogical models and scenarios.
- Novel software infrastructure solutions including e-learning platforms, tools, and reusable content modules.
Authors may submit their high-quality contributions any time. The submissions are subject to a review process in the manner customary with scientific journals. Detailed information for authors follows below.
We seek contributions in two classes:
- Regular, long articles which are reviewed. The requirements on the submissions are discussed below.
- Short contributions that describe your project, your group, or your company. Position papers and letters to the editors belong to the same class.
Short contributions are limited to three pages and are not reviewed other than from the editors.
Manuscript
Authors must include the following:
- A meaningful title
- Author names, email, affiliations
- An abstract
- Key words
The abstract should clearly present the objectives of the presented work and its general results. It must indicate whether its focus is more on theoretical or practical questions, it is a case study, or a survey. It should neither be too long, nor too short.
Currently, there is no strong restriction on the format of the paper. For submission, the paper has to be submitted as a PDF file with the following recommendations:
- one column
- single spaced
- standard fonts (times, helvetica, courier)
- no footnotes (use endnotes if absolutely necessary)
Pictures should be embedded such that they are clear, e.g. PNG is preferable to JPG. Scalable formats are preferred.
Because of the electronic publication, there is no restriction on the length of the regular, long contributions. However, try not to use too much time of the busy reader; reviewers might reject overly long papers. Because eleed is bilingual, the manuscript is allowed to be in English or German. However, English is preferred. The submission of twofold manuscript with a German and an English version is welcomed. The editors reserve the right to ask the authors to improve format and layout before the reviewing starts.
Additional Material
During the review process, the PDF version is the only file to be submitted. Due to the special possibilities and requirements of the electronic publishing and the e-learning topic, additional material which cannot be embedded in PDF is allowed. Such material, e.g. animations, multimedia presentations, or examples, may be, to some extent, part of the paper. Such material must be provided by the authors on some external servers and should be referenced in the paper just by its URL with a descriptive text. The descriptive text should be concise, such that it is not necessary to visit the external material to understand the paper.
How to submit
Manuscripts intended for publication in eleed should be send as a PDF file to eleed@campussource.de. In the bilingual case, please send a German and an English file together with a statement that both version are identical.
Originality
This journal is committed to best international practice with regard to the originality of submitted papers and the criteria for authorship. Submitted material should not have been published to the general public. Extended versions of workshop or conference publications should have enough new content.
Review Process
The review process for regular, long contributions will be handled through web-based services. The authors will be provided with an account to that service, which can be used to check the status of the review process. However, most communication and coordination will be handled by email. Thus it is necessary for the authors to provide one email address which is checked regularly.
Reviewers are bound to respect confidentiality and to disclose conflicts of interest.
Accepted Papers
Papers that passed the review process successfully, have to be prepared for online publication by the authors. This requires a transformation into a dedicated XML format. To make the transformation as smooth as possible, the authors have to provide the original sources of their papers. Currently, allowed formats include LaTeX, Microsoft Word, and OpenOffice. Embedded pictures have to be provided in the original format and must be free of copyright problems.
The final paper will be published under the Digital Peer Publishing Licence. This basically means that the authors transfer their rights for electronic distribution to the eleed journal. The eleed journal will offer the final paper in the (electronic) issues and ensures its fee-less availability. Of course, the authors are allowed to distribute the paper electronically under the Digital Peer Publishing Licence. The rights to use in physical form, particularly the rights to distribute the work in printed form or on storage media, are retained by the authors or other rights holders and are not covered by this licence.
