February 13-14, 2012, FernUniversität in Hagen

In 2002, the German Research Foundation ( DFG ) launched a new program funding the development of Centers of Excellence for research information. The key objective was to raise the efficiency of universities’ information management and thus strengthen research and higher education in two key areas:

  • New organizational models for an integrated information management at universities

  • Digital text and data centers aiming at the collection, sustainable management, and open delivery of digital sources for research and teaching.

In the second theme, which was the subject of this workshop, four projects were funded in the years 2004 to 2012 in two overlapping 5-year periods: CampusContent / edu-sharing , DMG-Lib , OpEN.SC , and PROBADO . These projects, all of which are more or less related to e-learning, presented their core results, ongoing research activities, and gave live demonstrations of the technical solutions. Each project presentation was supplemented by thorough discussion and an expert presentation providing a wider perspective on the actual project’s topic area and sketching the project’s potential and possible threads and weaknesses. Cross-project issues and new options for further research were discussed in a concluding panel discussion.

The whole event was recorded (in German) and can be watched on FernUniversität’s streaming video channel . The presentations follow the program shown below:
